WESTON AFC SET TO ADD GOALKEEPING TALENT IN ACADEMY RANKS
Weston-super-Mare AFC are looking to add goalkeepers who are aged between 10-16 yrs to their outstanding academy.
All Weston-super-Mare AFC academy goalkeepers have access to three dedicated goalkeeping coaches every week on a Tuesday, with allocated space on the 3G surface with appropriate tailor-made sessions to suit the age groups.
We deliver 8-to-10-week training blocks and after each block, an individual player review is carried out where the coaches will identify individual development points. At the end of each training bock the academy goalkeepers will have a 1-1 sit down with our Goalkeeping Specific Coaches to provide feedback and discuss their areas for improvement moving into the next 8-to-10-week training block.
The Academy has a sports therapist available who can be booked in advance if any injuries occur.
Our goalkeeping provision:
The academy program is split into 3 phases similar to the outfield age groups:
Under 9s to under 12s will train together in the Foundation phase where we look to develop and improve the fundamental movements, actions and coordination of each goalkeeper in a fun relaxed environment.
Under 13s to under 16s is our Development phase. These goalkeepers work towards achieving a comprehensive knowledge of more advanced movements, actions and multiple in-game scenarios to prepare them for the 11v11 game in a more intense environment to prepare them for senior football.
Senior phase is under 18s and under U19s which incorporates the Women’s teams. These will work alongside the development phase and push to develop the understanding of all elements within the game to the highest possible level, if they are achieving satisfactory levels, they will be invited to attend 1st team training sessions and eventually asked to attend pre-match warm-ups at home.
